Studio Lighting

This project was to take three photos with studio lighting. After a bit of trial and error, I finally managed to capture 2:1 lighting, and moved on from there, experimenting with more dramatic lighting and some different temperatures. My theme for these photos is fear of the dark, because I think that's something everyone has to face and conquer at some point in their life. I tried to display a feeling of comfort in the isolation of complete darkness. Each subject has natural body language and unafraid facial expressions, appearing comfortable and satisfied with looking into darkness and away from light. It did help, however, that the subjects were much more comfortable not staring into hot, blinding light, but I think that adds to the theme. I tried to capture a surreal feeling of calm that brings focus entirely to the subject, by darkening the rest of the photo in photoshop while keeping the subject well-lit. I wanted the photo to feel unrealistic, but calming, by taking a situation that makes people nervous and making it seem pleasant.
